ASSIGNMENT:

When it comes to the web, it seems to be the best way for research, the news, even entertainment. The increase of technology in academia has changed the way teaching is being done. I know for myself that having the Internet has changed the way I am able to do school work, find a job, plan vacations. Thanks to the 1990’s the World Wide Web has transformed the way we as people do their daily activities. Email to me is the biggest advancement in communication since the telephone. We are able to send a “letter” within seconds.
In education Web 2.0 is very important in the development of academia advancement. If you are writing a research paper you need information and with the Web 2.0 you are able to find the needed information. For example the web link of infoplease.com works as a good all around resource. You are able to find biographies, world news, U.S news, and technology advancements. There are plenty of possible choices when it comes to infoplease. Also if you were to show a video of some sort for educational purposes then you could use the website teachers.tv. This is a good place for Math, English, and Science. But it is not for only one level of education. You can find videos for primary or secondary education programs. A good place for presentations would be Prezi.com. This idea of presentation has not changed in ages. So Prezi allows you to give the audience a better and more fun way to connect with the material. It allows you to create pictures where you can zoom out to see the big picture or zoom in to see details. This type of presentation style is of the future. With the advancements of technology and human knowledge things change. With the web, there are so many ways that people can use this type of technology. Who needs a library anymore, when you can get pretty much any information online? The web is a very important tool in today’s schooling and with that teachers are setting up more assignments online.
A good tool for secondary or college would be the social network of Second Life, which is a 3D world created for your amusement. A long with being a social program, schools can use this as a way to communicate with students or other faculty. You can make a lecture where student’s 3D figures are in the classroom, instead of your actual human self. Along with using it as a classroom people are able to create a person of who ever they want. You can be a woman in Second Life, but be a man in the real world. This type of social network is of the future, where I think it might replace a lot of online classes, and how schools go about with online courses.
The web side known as PBWorks is a good place for creating a webpage. You can use this in your classroom as a place to post homework, since most high schools don’t use blackboard or such. Also this could help you your students with good places to find research, library book status, class schedules, and even a personal bio so your student knows some information about the teacher.
Since I would like to think as myself as a teacher who wants to interact with their students, Classtools.net will be a good place to create educational games. Also you can make timelines, jigsaw diagrams, and even animated books. The animated book would be good for a history teacher, since pictures and the story are a huge part of knowing what history was about.
Another great page to use was awesomelibrary.org. This web page is a good place for teachers and finding resources to use in class. The social studies section gives a wide variety of topics that you teach. But with those topics it will give you a lesson plan that you could use as a guideline. Or different subjects within those topics and where to find that data you need to prove your facts are right.
A place that I use a lot is google docs, this website is a great place for uploading files from your computer to a website, so you are able to come back from another location and work on it there. You also are able to share your work. If you work with another person and use their help then you are able to complete your work faster then expected. Also in google docs, there are the free spreadsheets from google. It is possible to create and share online as well as tracking budgets or data. What is also nice is the free embedded presentations that make is possible to edit or add text, images, and video. All these possibilities are possible with a smart phone or computer. The computer can be in another country and you are still able to work on assignments like it was your own computer.
Now when it comes to teaching some websites would be better then others. The first website that would work pretty will is prezi. I am able to create presentations for my class, but not make it so boring. As I stated earlier the type of presentations that can be created on Prezi is of the future. Since I like the advancements in technology and teaching, I feel that second life would be a nice place for a student to have a conference with their teacher or myself. With this being possible you would be available to the students not just at school, but at home as well. This makes the students life easier and hopefully myself. Another thing that could make the teachers life a lot easier would be if they had their own web page for the students use. A webpage can be created at PBWorks. Having a webpage helps in the preservation of paper, since their homework would be posted online.
To conclude when it comes to the web aka Web 2.0, there are endless possibilities when it comes to teaching and resources it takes to accomplish your teaching goals.

REFLECTION:

Notice the visual I used, well doing this artifact showed me what all those words mean. I was able to know the different things you can do on-line, which is a whole lot these days. I also will use this knowledge for the classroom, so I can teach my students the correct ways of research on-line and also the different tools you can use to do assignments or projects. The new Web 2.0 has social networking as well, so I can teach the students about the proper things to show or do on them. I am able to teach them life situations and stuff outside of school.
